In A Nutshell

In A Nutshell

We know you’re busy. So here’s the essential information about the 6med UCAT Crash Course.

Course Overview

7 hours. Is it enough to prepare you for the UCAT? Of course not. But it’s a great foundation.

Verbal Reasoning

Critical thinking is the main point they’ll be assessing you on this section. The main thing to remember is that although the questions are not as hard as in other sections, the time constraint makes this section the one with the lowest average mark.

During the course, we’ll look at the type of extracts that might come up on the exam, and what techniques are best to approach them. We’ll focus on techniques that help you read and analyse text efficiently in order to find the right answer as quickly as possible.

Decision Making

In the Decision Making section things get a bit more complicated. You have to use different strategies to answer the questions, and it can quickly become overwhelming. Contrarily to other sections, the questions will most likely vary significantly.

We have done the work for you so during the course we’ll take you through the different techniques used to approach each question type. This section is quite hard, but we’ll be here to give you all the support you need.

Quantitative Reasoning

This section is all about using efficient methods to solve the questions. The content on this portion of the exam does not go beyond your Secondary School Maths so all you have to worry about is how you approach and solve the questions.

Luckily, the questions follow the same structure over and over again.  During the course we’ll make sure you have a strong understanding of the necessary mathematical concepts before solving exam-style practice questions.

Abstract Reasoning

Recognising patterns in shapes is a great way to give your head a break during the exam, and if you have a solid strategy going into this section, you can really boost your score. Patterns can sometimes be anything but obvious, but as long as you focus on beating the clock you’ll do fine.

Mercifully, there are only so many patterns they can give you before running out of ideas. We’ll progressively show you more challenging patterns as the course progresses.

Situational Judgment

The Situational Judgement section of the UCAT is actually not included in your overall UCAT score. Your score on this section will be given separately and it will be a score from 1 to 4 – with band 1 being the highest mark. Each university will have its own way of using this score so it’s important that you don’t underestimate the potential importance given to it by your university choices.  Situational tests like the SJTs are commonly used in medical applications.

We’ll make sure to go through the most suitable approaches to the SJT questions and how to create a strategy that will boost your confidence (and your answers!).

All UCAT Sections

The workbook includes a comprehensive section for each one of the UCAT sections. This will give you the essential information on each section and it help you understand why the section is included in the exam. You’ll then move onto techniques and advanced tips which will help you get the highest possible score, paired with lots of practice question and fully worked solutions.

UCAT Preparation

Before diving straight into the exam preparation, we want to give you a ‘pre-preparation’ on how to work on your own at home. This chapter is filled with helpful tips on what you should focus on when preparing, how to make a study plan and general productivity advice. A strong strategy for your UCAT exam is something every student should have.

UCAT Strategy

This chapter will include some of the must-know principles and techniques for the UCAT.  There’s a clear underlining strategy that should be followed whilst applying some more section-specific methods. Essentially, you need to manage your time well, for example know when to skip a question, and other more general approaches to questions.

UCAT Practice

As with any exam, your success is directly related to how much you practice. Often, students neglect reflection and focus only on the wrong answers. You need to adapt a perfectionist attitude, look at your right answers and identify how to improve. Maybe you can be quicker? Be your own coach! The ‘Practice’ chapter will focus on ways to maximise how much you get out of each section.

UCAT Course Reviews

Hundreds and hundreds of students have attended our courses and loved them. Here you can find their unedited reviews of our courses.

So, we’ve probably got a slightly biased opinion, but yes it is pretty damn good!

We make sure to ask every student after each course we run whether they would recommend it to a friend. After years of running these courses, every student has said “yes” to this question.

We’ve also got a tonne of reviews that you can read on our reviews page.

Of course, you should book a place with whomever you feel would be able to trust most with your UCAT preparation.

Your lead course instructor will be an accomplished medic who sat the UCAT themselves and scored in the top 10% nationally.

Having done the exam themselves, they understand the difficulty of preparation and also understand how to prepare effectively. This is the kind of insider information they will look to pass onto you.

We’ve got an average tutor rating of 4.93/5 (with over 4,000 reviews!) so we think we do a pretty good job of this.

We hold our courses live on Zoom. Once you book, you’ll be sent over a link of the course, along with lots of other goodies (mainly the UCAT workbook/bible).

The UCAT Crash Course intends to build a strong foundation for you to springboard your preparation from. 7 hours simply isn’t enough to tell you everything you need to know for the UCAT, but we pack a ton into the day so you’ll leave much more confident and able to approach your UCAT revision.

A huge component of our Crash Course is the 300-page UCAT workbook. We’ll be using this throughout the course itself, and most students follow the guide religiously throughout their preparation period (after which you can burn it!).

You’ll also be given the UCAT course companion guide which is there to help you follow along and participate in the course on the day.

In truth, we’re not UCAT examiners or anything (not that any official UCAT examiners exist and teach). We’re a group of medical students who have successfully been through the process and have been showing future medics how to do the same for many years.

What you get with 6med is an honest perspective on the exam and you’ll learn how to ensure you end up with a strong UCAT score. We’ve spent years teaching this exam and have crafted strategies that work for tons of students.

We’re confident in our techniques and we know it will work for you.
